AFSC 2025 wrap

A Message from the ISV Board:
Congratulations on AFSC 2025 Success.

On behalf of the Ice Skating Victoria (ISV) Board, we extend our congratulations to all ISV Athletes and Synchronized Teams who represented us with such distinction at the Australian Figure Skating Championships (AFSC) 2025 last week.

While our contingent was smaller this year, the quality of the performances was high and we are delighted by the way every single athlete competed and handled the high-stakes, high-stress environment that defines a National Championship.

Gold Medal Triumphs and Outstanding Achievements

We must give particular praise to our gold medalists, who delivered phenomenal skates to reach the top of the podium:

  • Vinceman Chong: Vinceman has achieved the truly remarkable with an unprecedented Junior National Champion trifecta for 2023, 2024, and 2025. This sustained excellence and dominance in the Junior category is a testament to his dedication and skill.
  • Michael Yuchen Duan: Michael continues his impressive progression, securing the Novice Boys champion title for the second year running, following his Basic Novice Boys championship in 2023. This back-to-back-to-back success demonstrates his steady, strong rise through the ranks.

Congratulations also goes to Victoria Alcantara, whose strength and artistry earned her the well-deserved silver medal in the Senior Women category.

Value of National Competition

For every competitor, whether you stood on the podium or not, the AFSC is an invaluable experience. Competing at this level provides crucial feedback and often crystalises areas for refinement and progression as you look ahead to the next season. The lessons learned here are vital to advancing your technical elements, component scores, and overall competitive maturity.

We also acknowledge and thank our dedicated ISV officials. Being selected for national panels at this level involves a great deal of dedication and commitment. They embraced the concentration of knowledge that comes with officiating at the highest standard and gained valuable insights that will enhance their ability to service and guide our skating community in the future.

Looking Ahead

For now, please take the time you have chosen to refresh and recharge over the holiday break. You have earned it.

We also look forward to supporting our dedicated Adult skaters, who will be competing at the inaugural Australian Adult Figure Skating Championship (AAFSC) in March 2026, the first-ever national championship exclusively dedicated to Adult athletes.

Well done again to all. We are proud of your efforts and look forward to celebrating your future successes.
