2020 Season Announcement

With ice rinks on the verge of reopening, Ice Skating Victoria (ISV) has been preparing to restart the 2020 season. Please find below how ISV will be supporting members for the remainder of the 2020 season.

Test sessions

The season's remaining test sessions will be proceeding along with one additional session in August.

  • Test session #6: Friday 24 July, 3.30pm - 6.30pm
  • Test session #6.5: Saturday 15 August, 1.30pm - 4.30pm *ADDITIONAL SESSION*
  • Test session #7: Friday 28 August, 3.30pm - 6.30pm
  • Test session #8: Friday 11 September, 3.30pm - 6.30pm
  • Test session #9: Friday 20 November, 3.30pm - 6.30pm

Depending on the demand for tests later in the season, additional sessions may be added.

Skaters who are testing up to be able to qualify for the Australian Figure Skating Championships will be given priority for earlier sessions.

Bookings for all sessions are now open via the ISV website. If you haven’t already, you are encouraged to read Ice Skating Australia Communication 113, ISA COVID-19 Tests.

Victorian Figure Skating Championships (VFSC) & Southern Cross Trophy (SCT)

Scheduled for Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 October, these events are expected to proceed as planned. ISV will reassess the situation in September to determine if running the events will be possible. Further information will be made available later in the year.

Qualifications Scores

The Ice Skating Victoria AFSC Qualification Scores Policy (June 2020) is now available on the ISV website. Scores have been updated in line with ISU GOE changes. The last day to obtain a qualification score is 25 October 2020.

Given the uncertainty around events for the remainder of the season, Ice Skating Victoria has decided the following:

  • VFSC is a nominated qualifying event, regardless of its benchmark status.
  • If Crystal Challenge proceeds in 2020, it will also be a nominated qualifying event, regardless of its benchmark status.
  • If athletes are unable to obtain a qualification score in 2020, scores from the 2019 season will be considered. If athletes have moved up into a new division in 2020, depending on the requirements of the new division, the athletes 2019 score may be considered. The full details of this adjusted qualification process will be outlined in the COVID-19 Qualification Process Policy to be released later this season.

Athlete Development

State Squad sessions will re-commence from Friday 17 July. The Athlete Development coordinator will be in contact with the participating Athletes in the lead up to the sessions.

The Synchronised Athlete Development session originally scheduled for June has been rescheduled for Saturday 23 August. Ice Skating Victoria will liaise with VSIC regarding the structure of this session and which teams will be invited to participate.

Return to Play Plan

Ice Skating Victoria is in the process of finalising a Return to Play Plan for Figure Skating in Victoria. This Victorian Government requirement will outline how Ice Skating Victoria and its affiliated clubs must conduct any activities including athlete development sessions, test sessions and events. This document will be made available once approved by the Victorian Government.

All Victorian State Sporting Associations are required to complete a plan before sport can resume. This plan applies to all athletes, coaches, volunteers, officials, family members, spectators and any other persons who participate in Figure Skating activities in Victoria.
